This project envisioned a courtyard that would serve as a place for the students in
the school of law, or anyone else, to have a place to do homework and a place to
enjoy nature. The courtyard design is inspired by the precedent study of the Bill and
Melinda Gates Foundation Campus, located in Seattle, Washington.
As a means of emphasizing these goals and using the precedent study as an
inspiration, the project incorporated a big open space surrounded by water and
nature. The pond surrounding the courtyard is a living pond, containing Koi fish and
deep submerged plants, along with floating plants. The plants work as a filter for the
pond: the pond also serves to capture and re-use the rainwater for on-site functions.
